Happy Tuesday, Walnut Creek!
๐ก Did you know? Walnut Creek celebrated its 112th birthday last Wednesday, October 21! The city was incorporated in 1914, becoming the eighth city in Contra Costa County, and by 1920 it was home to about 538 people.
This week: Howl-ooo-ween at Lindsay Wildlife tonight, the Chamber's 100th birthday celebration Thursday, an outdoor screening of Coco and a pet-friendly Halloween festival Friday, plus costume parties, live music, and a few spooky surprises around town on Saturday.
Last week's poll ended in a three-way tie between Diwali and the drone show, the Makers Market, and a quiet weekend at home. Apparently, Walnut Creek was split between going out and staying in! This week's question is at the bottom.
Let's get to it.

๐ฅ Weekly Walnut recipe: Nan-e Gerdui (Persian Walnut Cookies). A cup and a third of walnuts gets ground right into the dough with rice flour, cardamom and a little rose water, then each cookie gets a pinch of ground pistachio on top. It makes five dozen small cookies in about an hour and fifteen minutes.
๐ต Who we are listening to: the California Symphonyโs playlist for From Tchaikovsky to Copland. Copland wrote his Clarinet Concerto for Benny Goodman, and you can hear it live at the Lesher a week from Saturday.
๐ป Halloween book pick: Halloween Activity Book for Kids, spooky mazes, word searches and jokes for ages 6 to 12.
๐ Positive news around the globe: A couple in Sandy Springs, Georgia, heard honking on the way to work and found a tiny black kitten stuck in their carโs suspension. Three firefighters and two police officers got him out, and since the couple was married on Halloween, they took it as a sign and adopted him. His name is Friday Shadow. Read Article
