Hello Walnut Creek!
Starting this week, every Thursday we’ll be spotlighting a local small business that helps make Walnut Creek what it is. The goal is simple: share their story, highlight the people behind the vision, and connect our readers with the neighbors building something meaningful here in the community.
This week’s Small Business Highlight is a little more personal than most. Rose Stein Coaching was built from a powerful turning point that transformed years of struggle into something rooted in healing, connection, and helping others feel like themselves again. It’s a story that started right here in Walnut Creek and continues to give back to the community in a meaningful way.
Tell us the story behind your business. What inspired you to start it, and how did it all begin?
7 years ago, I had a spiritual experience where years of fear, anger, and self hatred left my body in just a few minutes. What was left surprised me, it was just love. People talk about that in religious and spiritual circles, but I didn’t believe it. I had no idea how powerfully loving the natural state of being human really is, under all the ‘stuff’. I felt moved, guided, almost told to “tell your story”. I had no idea what that meant, so I just went on Facebook and told my story for about 45 minutes. It was terrifying, but when you are called, you just answer. Knock knock. About 20 minutes later 2 different friends called me, both in tears, saying I spoke to their hearts. They wanted to know what I was doing and how they could be a part of it. So, I started a business to serve. They were my first 2 clients.

Why Walnut Creek? What made you choose this area to plant roots?
I was born and raised in Walnut Creek, In fact, I was born in a little 2-bedroom home on Almond Avenue, downtown Walnut Creek. My family has one of the longest standing restaurants in town and my son now attends the same school I graduated from - Las Lomas High School. Walnut Creek is my home. It’s an honor to serve the people of this town, to grow and mature, and learn together.

What’s something about your business that most people don’t know?
I have various offerings including Reiki, hypnotherapy, past life regression, and EFT services to help my clients move through their muck and feel better.
What’s been your biggest challenge as a small business owner here?
The majority of my work has been online, but occasionally I work with clients 1:1 at my home, or theirs. It would have been great to have a brick and motor location where clients could come see me and my business could grow locally. But that always seemed out of reach financially. That is my biggest complaint about Walnut Creek, it’s very expensive to run a business.

What’s been your most rewarding moment so far?
It took a long time, down a winding road, but I finally wrote my story down and self-published my book this year. The moment that touched me the most is when my virtual assistant in the Philippines and I were reading it out loud and she started crying. Then my mom read it and she said, “thank you, Rose. You have set me free.” Healing is possible, in fact, it’s the only thing that is real. Love is real and love heals all.

What’s next for you? Anything exciting coming up that readers should know about?
In honor of my guidance and my mother I will be hosting a live reading of the book with my mother by my side. Just so you get a sense of the vibe, my book is called “I wasn’t born fat: unlearning body shame and forgiving my mother.” It’s time to heal the competition, hurt feelings, and pain between mother and daughter, and we get to do this together.
I’ll be hosting an in-person reading on Wednesday, April 29, from 7–8 PM at 911 Moraga Rd, Suite 103, Lafayette, CA 94549.

Rose’s story is a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful businesses come from the most unexpected places. If you’re curious about her work or feel like something here resonated, this might be a good time to take a closer look. And if nothing else, it’s always worth supporting someone who’s pouring back into the community they’ve called home for so long.
