🐾 A Night of Honor Brings the Community Together for a Good Cause

Lance Iversen / The Chronicle
If you’re an animal lover or just someone who enjoys an evening that feels meaningful, A Night of Honor — Rescue Champions Fundraiser is one to put on your radar this week. The event takes place Friday, January 16, at the Lesher Center for the Arts and supports animal welfare through Tony La Russa’s Rescue Champions.
This isn’t your typical fundraiser. The evening blends entertainment, community, and purpose, bringing together people who care about giving animals a second chance. It’s the kind of event where you can dress up a bit, enjoy a night out, and know you’re supporting something genuinely good at the same time.
For many locals, this type of gathering hits the sweet spot: social, feel-good, and close to home. Whether you’re going with friends, a partner, or flying solo, it’s an easy way to do something different on a Friday night while supporting a cause that resonates with a lot of Walnut Creek residents.
When: Friday, January 16, 7:30–10:00 PM
Where: Lesher Center for the Arts
Price: Ticketed event (pricing varies)
🍕 Square Pie Guys Opens in Walnut Creek

Square Pie Guys was born from a shared passion for perfecting pizza and sharing it with their community. Two guys set out to introduce Detroit-style pizza to the Bay Area.
They recently opened their Walnut Creek location downtown, bringing thick, square slices with crispy edges and bold toppings.
If you’re unfamiliar, Detroit-style pizza is all about the crust, and this one delivers. It’s a great option for a casual dinner, group order, or when cooking feels like too much effort.
Where: 1991 N California Blvd
Price: Pizzas typically range $20–$30, depending on size and toppings

🎤 Improvised Stephen King Comedy
This show answers the question no one knew they had: what happens when improv comedy meets Stephen King–style storytelling? Improvised Stephen King is running select nights at the Lesher Center for the Arts, turning spooky themes into fast-paced, unscripted comedy.
Every performance is different, which makes it especially fun if you like surprises. It’s clever, slightly dark, and more funny than frightening.
